Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are available at 11+, 13+ and in the Sixth Form for both internal and external candidates. They may also be considered for exceptional students entering at other stages.
All applications for scholarships and bursaries must be received by the deadlines outlined below. Note: internal students applying for 13+ awards will be pre-selected by the Head of Year and Deputy Head Academic in light of their performance in the Year 8 summer term exams, practical assessments and interview.

11+ and 13+ Scholarships – Academic, Sport and Music
Each year we award a number of Academic Scholarships worth up to 25% of the tuition fees to the top-performing girls in the Year 7 entrance exam. All girls sitting the exam are automatically considered for these awards and no means-testing is involved.
Applicants applying by the deadline will be guaranteed an interview with the Headmistress prior to the entrance examination.

We award Sports Scholarships to students who show significant potential. Applicants should demonstrate potential in one of the school’s main sports. They are likely to play this at club and/or area level and with potential to play at regional/national level.

A Year 7 Major Music Scholarship is available which offers a reduction of up to 50% off the general tuition fees and may include free tuition on up to two instruments in school. A Year 7 Minor Music Scholarship covers the cost of tuition on up to two instruments at school and possibly also a reduction in the general tuition fee.
To be considered for these awards, your Year 6 daughter should play to Associated Board Grade 4 (or equivalent) as a guide, although she does not need to have passed any formal music exams as we assess on potential as well as current level of performance. Please find details here of what you can expect from the audition day.

11+ and 13+ Bursaries and Special Awards
The founding origins of Redmaids’ High are unique among local girls' schools and mean that we can offer a number of fully and partially-assisted places.
As a broad guide, it is likely that the maximum bursary will not exceed 50% of full fees, although we do have two special awards that provide for 100% of fees (see below).
The assessment of a family's means takes parents' income and the value of their capital assets into consideration. More information on applying for a bursary is set out in the Bursary Policy.
Special Awards (Year 7 only)
For those joining at Year 7, two 100% funded places – the John Whitson Award and the Florence Edith Rowbotham Award – are also available.
The John Whitson Award is a fully means-tested, 100% scholarship given to a girl who can demonstrate academic ability in the Year 7 Entrance Examination and who would be unable to attend Redmaids' High School without this assistance.
The Florence Edith Rowbotham Award provides for a 100% fully funded place at the senior school. It is awarded at the discretion of the Headmistress on the basis of wider criteria to a girl who has done well in the Year 7 Entrance Examination. Parents are invited to contact the school to discuss their or their daughter's special circumstances.
Financial Assistance Form
In addition to the awards mentioned above, we will make up to ten Headmistress Awards to girls joining Year 7 who excel in one area of the entrance exam, or who show particular potential.
