We have been very fortunate across four centuries to have received substantial gifts from generous benefactors. Below are a few examples of these gifts. 

1634 Founding of the Red Maids’ School through John Whitson’s Legacy 

1719 Legacy to the school by Alderman Saunders 

1819 Gift of £1,143 15s from Richard Hughes Esq 

1834 Gift of £1,000 from Alderman Daniel followed by a Legacy in 1854 

2003 Legacy of £5,000 left by Ruth Poole, this was used to buy a state-of-the-art projector for Denmark Hall 

2004 Whole estate bequeathed to the school by Beryl Heitzman – used to increase bursary fund 

2006 Donation from Jill Cawthorne used to create a Sixth Form Scholarship

2006 Donation used to refurbish entrance to school and reinstate iron railings 

2006 Donation from Betty Brooks used to fund new radio-controlled clocks for the school 

2007 Donation from Fiona Harman to fund mirrors in the Dance Studio 

2008 Donation used to set up named endowment to create the Florence Edith Rowbotham Award 

2008 Donation to award the Lola Hayne Scholarship for 5 years 

2009 Legacy from Christopher Stunt used to part fund the rebuilding of the Sixth Form Centre 

2009 Legacy to create the Pamela Ellery Award 

2010 Legacy from former Headmistress Dorothy Dakin used to increase bursary funding 

2011 Donation from Beryl and David Sheasby used to award Sixth Form scholarship for IB 

2012 Donation from Pauline Nichols of £20,000 used to part fund refurbishment of Food Technology room

2014 Legacy from former English Teacher Michael Pearson used to part-fund the Pearson Library
