Personal Development

The Red Maids’ Junior School is a happy, friendly, close-knit community. From the youngest to the oldest, everyone in our school has an important part to play. We listen to our girls and empower them to make decisions. Charity events for example, are often suggested, organised and run by the girls themselves.

We actively help the girls to build friendships across the year groups. We do this through our House system and our extensive range of extra-curricular activities. In addition, each week we bring girls from different year groups together for 'activity hour'. This helps the older ones to develop important leadership skills and have a real sense of responsibility, while the younger girls have positive role models to look to.

We also have an excellent ‘big girl, little girl’ system, where older pupils look after and care for younger pupils. This really helps them expand their social horizons, form long-lasting friendships and significantly raises aspirations.

Our pastoral care is excellent. We know every girl individually, but also have whole-school pastoral meetings every week to discuss good manners, caring behaviour, the environment, charitable activities and so on.

It's nice having a 'big girl' who is older. She helps me to get to know everyone in the school."
