'Pupils and staff during each visit have been extremely helpful, polite and welcoming'

We began our exchange programme with Pymble Ladies' College in Sydney, Australia, in 2009. Since then, each year, a number of girls from Year 9 have travelled there to spend three weeks 'down under'. We then welcome their  'exchange sisters' back to Red Maids' the following September.

All the girls who express an initial interest in this opportunity have to go through a careful selection process. It's important we choose girls who are not only great ambassadors for our school, but who are also robust enough to able to take full advantage of this unique opportunity.

While at Pymble, the girls are fully integrated into the school, which includes wearing the school uniform. They study subjects such as Agriculture and Aboriginal Studies, and also run a blog detailing their experiences and time in Australia.

To date, these exchanges have been a huge success. As well as enjoying a unique, educational experience, the girls have made really strong new friendships - and some of them have ventured back to Sydney under their own steam during school holidays.

Pymble was recently named in 'Five of the Top Schools in the World', a list compiled by The Good Schools Guide International of schools offering boarding outside the UK.
