Art and Design
This is a creative subject which allows students to explore and experiment with a wide range of styles and techniques.
We study different artists during each project, using examples of their work to examine the different processes used. Our girls use this as inspiration, and to help them develop their own technical abilities. This results in an extremely high standard of innovative work which uses a variety of materials. Areas of study include drawing and painting, print-making, photography and sculpture.
The Art Department consists of three fully-equipped studios, a computer suite and well-stocked library.
Art is on the curriculum for all girls in Years 7 to 9 and it is an optional subject for GCSE when we follow the AQA syllabus.
It is important to study and learn from the work of established artists, so organise trips to the Frieze Art Fair in London, the Tate Modern, the Tate Britain as well as to local museums and galleries. We also enjoy great success at regional and national art competitions and many students go on to complete Art Foundation Courses before progressing to university.
